Theta cellsCentre goalAnswer key

Circle mazes, also called theta mazes, are built from rings divided into curved cells. They look beautiful on a page and make a natural "reach the middle" puzzle. Set the number of rings, add a centre room, then print or export.

About circle mazes

A circle maze replaces rows and columns with rings and spokes. Each ring is split into curved cells, and the outer rings hold more cells than the inner ones so every passage stays about the same width. That makes the maze feel even, even though it is round.

Circular mazes suit "find your way to the centre" themes: a treasure in the middle, a planet at the core, a castle keep or a flower. Set Start to Top and Finish to Inner room, then add two or three centre rings to give the goal some space for a drawing.

Questions

Circle Maze Generator questions

What is a theta maze?

A theta maze is a circular maze made of concentric rings divided into cells. The name comes from the angle theta used to describe positions on a circle.

Can the maze start outside and end in the middle?

Yes. Set Start to Top and Finish to Inner room. GenMazes adds a centre room automatically and draws the finish arrow into it.

How many rings should a circle maze have?

Five to eight rings suits young children, ten to fourteen suits most adults, and twenty or more makes an expert puzzle that needs a large page.
